Brighton Steiner School

Date:June 2015
Location:Southampton, Isle of Wight, Weymouth
Target group:Year 8 pupils

This trip saw one of our Skippers and a volunteer First Mate take their crew of 13 year olds and their teacher on an adventure along the south coast. Setting off from Southampton water the trip involved nights at anchor on the Isle of Wight and on the Dorset coast, heading as far west as Weymouth. Making their way up the Beaulieu River the students visited Buckler’s Hard museum, home of Nelson’s warships, where they learned about traditional wooden boat building skills. Everyone joined in with watch keeping, making meals and sailing the boat, as well as gathering material for their discovery project.
